Magnet Madness

What did one magnet say to the other?  I find you very attractive!  BAH DUM CHA!

This week we have been learning a lot about magnets and participating in several hands-on experiments.  Some of the highlights have been:

Turning our scissors into magnets.  Yep that's right!  Due to the large amount of metal found in scissors, if you run them on a magnet for a minute or so the electrons line up and you can actually magnetize them.  Pretty cool if you ask me and my 20 little cherubs!

Fishing with magnets.  First we made predictions about which objects in our "pond" we could catch with our magnet fishing pole, then we went fishing!

Last we tested how strong magnets can be through various objects (cardboard, fabric, wood etc.).  I don't have any pictures of this one because I was still determined to run a reading group with all this magnet madness hoopla going on.   I know what was I thinking!? sigh : /

Very fun and kinda crazy, if I do say so myself, for a hot windy week!
