Spectacular Sea Stars!

It's official we are up to our ears in all things ocean in room 8!  One of the many wonderful things we have been doing this week is learning all about the stars of the sea ~SEA STARS!  On Monday we generated a great list of key questions we had about these interesting creatures.  Then the students worked with a partner and got busy researching using books and Google search.  I just can't believe how independent they are becoming by this time in the year.  Each one worked so well with their partner and they found the answers to all of our questions all.by.them.selves!  So very proud!!!  Then we came back together as a group and everyone shared their information.  Next the students wrote a rough draft of an informational paragraph about sea stars, worked with a peer to edit and revise, and finally they wrote a solid final draft paragraph.  Of course no project is complete at MATES without spectacular art to go with it.  :)  So we drew scientific diagrams of three different types of sea stars, labeled their parts and colored them beautifully.  We are transforming our room for open house one bulletin board at a time. ;)
